Telecommunication fraud is committed when an individual uses your landlines to make calls without your knowledge or authorisation.  It means that you could be liable for high bills and if you don’t protect your system it could continue undetected until you get your bill.  We have devised 10 easy ways to make your system more secure;

  1. System administration staff have the relevant training
  2. Staff protect their passwords and change them frequently
  3. Passwords are not default, contain patterns or are too short
  4. Never accept a transferred call on an outside line without establishing caller identity
  5. Restrict ability to place long distance calls
  6. Monitor calls that are obscene, silent or hang-ups
  7. Investigate recurring instances of wrong numbers, callers who ask the name of the person  they have been put through to or ask for invalid extension numbers
  8. Look after your voicemail system by removing unused mail boxes
  9. Check your Automated Attendant and block access codes (900) or long distance calls
  10. Be aware of anything unusual; activity out of hours, very long calls or long distance calls
